Configure Your Workspace: Harvey Admin Quick Start Part 1

Learn to set up Harvey for your organization.

Overview

Use this checklist-style guide to brand your workspace, set governance controls, and get your team logged in and productive quickly.

Required Steps

Step 1 - Apply Branding & Guidance (Required)

Set your organization’s identity and publish onboarding/compliance guidance.

Checklist

☐ Open Settings > Workspace

☐ Add organization name and logo

☐ Publish organization-specific Guidance (appears in sidebar menu) and recurring Notices for onboarding and compliance

Step 2 - Choose AI Models and Controls (Required)

Control which AI models are available in your workspace and who can use them.

Checklist

☐ Go to Settings > Models

☐ Enable the models approved for your organization

Optional: Decide whether to enable Model Selector for power users (Harvey auto-selects the best model by default)

☐ Confirm model availability aligns with your region and use cases

Step 3 - Configure Sharing and Roles (Required)

Set roles and sharing rules.

Checklist

☐ Go to Settings > Sharing

☐ Decide whether users can share Assistant threads, vaults, and Playbooks internally

☐ If needed, enable external sharing. Resources shared externally will require admin approval before permitted.

☐ Go to Settings > Roles

☐ Assign capabilities (for example: Vault access, Model Selector, Workflow Builder)

Step 4 - Enable Knowledge Sources (Required)

Turn on the legal and regulatory data sources your teams rely on so research and precedent work is effective from day one.

Checklist

☐ Go to Settings > Knowledge

☐ Enable desired knowledge sources (for example: EDGAR, web search).

Step 5 - Invite Users and Confirm Login (Required)

Invite users, then verify authentication.

Checklist

Ask your IT team and Harvey Account Manager for assistance with SSO configuration

☐ Invite users from Settings > Users

☐ Confirm users can log in via SSO or passwordless code at the correct regional URL:

☐ If SSO fails, verify region URL, avoid IdP-initiated flows, and confirm allowlisting and group assignments

☐ From user settings, customize roles and capabilities per user as needed

Complete these to support document-heavy work and consistent rollout.

Enable document ingestion so users can work with organizational files immediately.

Checklist

☐ Enable Google Drive and/or SharePoint/OneDrive (consider tenant-wide admin consent)

☐ If desired, configure daily SharePoint to Knowledge Base sync

☐ For iManage: complete cloud or on-prem setup for secure OAuth

Optionally deploy the 'Harvey in iManage' extension so users can send files to Harvey from iManage

Vault supports large-scale, team-based document review and analysis with reliable extraction of key terms across document types. You can also create knowledge base repositories to distribute internal documents that can be analyze in Assistant.

Checklist

☐ Click Create in Harvey's sidebar menu to create a vault and bulk upload files

☐ If required, configure Vault-specific retention, separate from workspace retention

Share vaults with individuals or the whole workspace (view/edit/full access)

Harvey’s Microsoft integrations let teams draft, summarize, run approved playbooks, and save matter work to Vault directly in Word and Outlook.

Checklist

☐ Deploy Harvey for Word and Harvey for Outlook; review security/privacy FAQs

Optional Steps - Groups, Matters, and Analytics

These improve scale and consistency but are not required for initial launch.

Groups

Groups make it easier to share vaults, workflows, and playbooks to teams without managing individuals one-by-one.

Checklist

☐ Start with a few core groups (e.g., by practice area) and expand after you see adoption patterns.

Client Matters

If your org uses Client Matters (CM#), enabling CM# selection supports tracking across tools and helps firms align usage with matter-based policies.

Checklist

☐ Go to Settings > Client Matters to add CM numbers

☐ Establish admin settings at the bottom of the CM page

Analytics

Once users begin work in Harvey, use Analytics and Workspace History exports to understand adoption and support needs, then iterate with the Harvey team.

Analytics Checklist

☐ Review Queries and Unique users by daily/monthly totals, query type, and date range.

☐ Export Analytics to a spreadsheet for deeper analysis.

Workspace History Checklist

☐ View query history across the workspace (includes an AI-generated query title plus query content).

☐ Export workspace history for deeper analysis.

☐ You can delete workspace history and enable users to delete their own history, if desired.

☐ If you do not want history available, you can submit a support request to deactivate it.
