Harvey for Outlook: How to Set Up and Use

Harvey for Outlook brings AI-powered legal support directly into your inbox. Summarize long email threads, draft or revise responses, and send key messages to Vault for record-keeping—all without leaving Outlook. It’s a faster, more consistent way to manage legal communication, reduce context switching, and stay aligned with internal standards.

Note: Before you begin

  • Harvey for Outlook is compatible with the legacy Outlook (Classic Outlook) and New Outlook.
  • If add-ins are managed by your organization’s administrator, they’ll need to enable Harvey for Outlook before you begin. If you cannot search for add-ins or locate Harvey in add-ins, please reach out to your organization’s admin.

End Users: Installation and Launch

Follow these steps to add Harvey for Outlook to your email.

Install on Outlook's Desktop App

  1. If you’re using Outlook’s desktop app, launch the Outlook application, then in the top toolbar click on the ellipses, then select “Get add-ins”

  2. Search add-ins for “Harvey” and click the add-in.
    1. If search is not an option for you, then in the left side menu click Admin-managed add-ins and check if Harvey is available there.
  3. Click Add to proceed.

Install on Outlook for Web

  1. If you’re using Outlook for Web, go to Outlook’s app store, then search for “Harvey” and click the add-in.

  2. Click Add to proceed.

How to Launch Harvey for Outlook

Note: Harvey for Outlook is designed to be used on an email thread so you’ll need to open an email to get started.

  1. Open the email thread you want to use Harvey with.
  2. Launch Harvey for Outlook.
    1. Using the Outlook desktop app: Harvey should be available in your toolbar. If you don’t see it, click the ellipses to expand the toolbar. You can choose customize toolbar to move Harvey within your static toolbar actions.

      1. When you launch Harvey for Outlook, click on the pin icon to keep Harvey available for quick use as you navigate through emails.

    2. Using Outlook for Web: Click the apps icon, then select Harvey for Outlook.

  3. Click Get Started to log into Harvey and begin using it on the opened email.
  4. A pop up prompting you to complete the integration should appear. Click Connect Outlook to give Harvey for Outlook permissions to read your mail, sign you in, read your profile, and maintain access to data.

How to Use Harvey for Outlook

Within an email, you can use Harvey to:

  • Analyze and summarize the emails and file attachments in the thread
  • Draft and revise email content
  • Choose a Vault project to store emails and attachments for later analysis

Here are a few simple prompts to help you get started:

  • Summarize this email thread
  • Surface key action items for me in this email thread
  • Write me an email updating the client on key redlines in their contract
  • Do any of the attachments in this email answer the questions in my uploaded DDQ?
