Add Instructions to Your Review Table

Learn how to add instructions that automatically apply to every new column in your review table.

Last updated: Dec 2, 2025

What’s New

You can now add persistent instructions to new review tables that automatically apply to all columns in your review table. This helps you ensure consistent formatting and reasoning across your entire table—without having to repeat instructions for each column.

Why it Matters

Previously, if you wanted consistent language, formatting, or reasoning across columns, you had to manually copy and paste instructions into each prompt.

With table-level instructions:

  • Your rules are automatically applied to every new column
  • You spend less time re-stating guidance
  • Your outputs remain consistent throughout the table

Example Use Cases

Use Case

Sample Prompt

Transactional — Make formatting uniform for quick integration into new documents

Instead of using the entity names, only refer to the parties as their role in the agreement (e.g., buyer, seller, agent).

Litigation — Use consistent reasoning for all extractions

Review these opinions in connection with preparation for oral argument at the Sixth Circuit. The oral argument relates to an assignment of error for granting summary judgment despite the existence of genuine issues of material facts. When reviewing the substance of these opinions, refer only to the majority opinion of the court. Disregard concurrences and dissents.

How to Add Instructions

  1. Start by creating a new review table. When prompted to select files, you’ll now see an Instructions section.
  2. Enter your instructions. Add text describing how you want every cell in the table to behave. This guidance will be applied to all new cells.
  3. Click Create table. Once the table is created, any generated cell will automatically follow your instructions.
  4. View your instructions at any time. Open the review table details panel on the right side of the table to see the instructions you originally set.

Notes and Limitations

In the future, we plan to consider the following enhancements to this feature:

  • Editing table instructions after they’re set
  • Creating column-specific instructions
  • Including table instructions in exported tables
  • Supporting non-text instruction types (e.g., files)
  • Adding instructions to existing review table workflows

FAQs

Q: Can I edit table instructions?

No, currently you can only set table instructions once — at the creation of the review table. In the future, we plan to fully build out this feature with revision capabilities (as well as column instructions, instruction version history, etc.).

Q: Where can I find table instructions after they’ve been set?

If you open the right-side details window, your table instructions will be listed there. In the future, once editing instructions are available (as well as column instructions, instruction version history, etc.), we’ll plan to make this feature more discoverable.

Q: Is there a way for me to include context that should be applied for all new cells?

Yes, you can specify this context in the “Table instructions” field when creating your review table. All columns will use the context from “Table instructions” when generating.
